Alpinestars' lightest self-contained airbag system, the Tech-Air® 3 v2, is designed to be worn over or under a motorcycle jacket, making it the effective and practical choice for touring riders, urban commuters, and adventure riders on light off-road terrain.
The Tech-Air® 3 v2 airbag system is now also user-serviceable, allowing riders to replace the gas cylinders after an airbag deployment. Alpinestars' crash detection deployment algorithm has been developed and refined with millions of kilometers of riding data and thousands of crashes, allowing the system to precisely assess when to deploy the airbag prior to a crash or other dangerous situations such as a side fall or a highside. Should the Tech-Air® 3 v2 detect the onset of a crash, the system will inflate the protective airbag within 50 milliseconds. In the event of a direct impact of the motorcycle with another vehicle or obstacle, the Tech-Air® 3 v2 system is effective for "first impact*," meaning the system inflates before hitting the vehicle or obstacle the motorcycle will directly impact. The "first impact" test was conducted in accordance with the Dolomiticert Protocol, where the airbag was tested at a speed range of 25 to 63 km/h. For more information on the protective casing, please refer to the Tech-Air® 3 v2 Owner's Manual. Featuring a water-resistant main frame and waterproof Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and electronics, the slim, self-contained system can also be worn under a motorcycle jacket, including an Alpinestars Tech-Air® Ready jacket, or any leather or textile jacket, provided the jacket has enough space to accommodate the airbag inflation. The Tech-Air® 3 v2 will allow riders to enjoy their daily commute even more, knowing they are protected.
The Tech-Air® 3 v2 is designed with a diagonal zipper to provide full front chest coverage while also concealing the internal airbag. The magnetic zipper closure is designed for ease of use and to provide a secure closure system to the airbag garment. An LED display on the front chest indicates the airbag's operational status. The LED display also incorporates a haptic alert, which vibrates to confirm the system is activated and alerts the rider when the battery is low. The integrated back protector pocket on the rear can accommodate additional passive back protection. The Tech-Air® 3 v2 incorporates Alpinestars' compact second-generation Pro electronic control unit, which is housed in the ECU pocket located on the upper back of the Tech-Air® 3 v2 inner vest. Bluetooth low energy (BLE 5.0) connectivity to the Tech-Air® App allows riders to monitor the system's operational status, battery status, and provides a detailed map of motorcycle routes via MyRide. The upgradeable system software is accessible via the Tech-Air® App, where riders can quickly check the installed software version and perform the latest software updates if necessary. The Tech-Air® 3 v2 uses a built-in, certified lithium-ion battery with a battery life of 40 hours and a charging time of approximately 4 hours. The gas inflator that supplies the gas for inflating the airbag is located in the inflator housing on the left side of the rider's lower back. The Tech-Air® 3 v2's ECU seal ensures performance in all weather conditions and is certified to operate between -20⁰C and +40⁰C. The gas inflator housing, electronic wiring, and airbag are easily removable. The Tech-Air® 3 v2 system is now user-serviceable, offering riders the option of replacing the inflator cylinders themselves in the event of an airbag deployment. The airbag is certified for up to 6 deployments, provided its integrity has not been compromised during deployment or a crash, and before it must be sent or taken to an Authorized Tech-Air® Service Center for airbag replacement. The inflator cylinders can be replaced by select Alpinestars dealers and certified Tech-Air Service Centers. The vest is washable. The ECU has been tested and CE certified according to various regulations for electronic devices, radios, and electrical safety. The inflator cartridge is CE certified according to UNI EN 16263, confirming compliance with the safety standard and certifying that the cartridges are safe to handle and serve.
