In the standard configuration, the waterproof and breathable layer is inside the trousers to protect the user and allow him to remove it to increase air circulation in hot climates, but when the weather conditions get cold it is possible to wear it over the outer trousers, leaving them completely dry and taking advantage of the benefits of a waterproof garment.
This solution also offers the advantage of increasing breathability and thermal insulation by creating a larger air gap inside that heats up with body heat.
